Obituary of Edward Senger

May 7, 1932 – Allan, Saskatchewan

January 19, 2025 – Calgary, Alberta

Edward Senger of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at the age of 92 years.

He was born in Allan, SK, on May 7, 1932. He moved to Edmonton as a young man, and his adventurous spirit took him to Inuvik, NWT, and eventually, Portland, Oregon, where he met his future wife, Pat.

He graduated from SAIT in Calgary with his heavy-duty mechanic ticket in the 1950s. He worked hard to support his family, and he could fix just about anything.

Edward married Pat in Portland, Oregon, in 1965. Their first daughter Beth was born there, and they then decided to settle in Calgary. They had two more children and were happily married for 51 years until Pat’s passing in 2017.

At 87 years old, he married Concetta Giammarino, and they provided companionship and laughter to each other for almost three years until her passing in 2022.

Ed was a very involved member of Corpus Christi Parish and belonged to the Knights of Columbus. He and Pat were also in the 5 O’clock Choir. They had great fun with their decades-long friends playing horseshoes by the parish hall.

Edward accomplished much throughout his life and was particularly proud of his children and grandchildren. He loved watching all five grandsons play hockey.

He also enjoyed horses, motorcycles, playing the organ, golfing, curling, bowling, and playing crib and other card games.

His most memorable vacations were when he visited his kids when they lived in Paris and England. He and Pat also went on many trips to attend curling championships. Trips were also a priority to visit his children wherever they lived, especially in Ontario.

He will be most remembered for his great sense of humour, optimism, and his love for his family.

Edward is survived by his two daughters, Beth (Glenn) Mitchell of Sundre, AB; Mary Pat Senger (Gates Aurigemma) of Calgary; his son Dave (Lori Ann) Senger of Ottawa, ON; as well as five grandsons, Justin (Ashley) Mitchell of Olds, AB; Bryn (Anna) Mitchell of Nelson, BC; Levi Mitchell of Gatineau, QC; Matteo and Giorgio Aurigemma of Calgary, AB; and one great-grandson Theo Mitchell of Olds, AB.

He is also survived by his two brothers, Tony and Eric (Stephanie) of Edmonton, AB; as well as two sisters, Celina Girard of North Vancouver, BC, and Dolores (Russ) Maksymetz of Abbotsford, BC; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Edward was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Pat, and his wife of three years later in life, Concetta Giammarino, parents, John and Mary, brothers, Andrew, Ted, and Ron; and sisters, Victoria and Jeannette.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Catholic Church (Corner of 4th Street & Northmount Drive N.W., Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. Reception to follow in the parish hall (5931 4 St NW, Calgary, AB T2K 1B4).

Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mr. Senger’s Mass streamed live (link to follow) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted.
