Obituary of Henry Thomas Astle

Henry Astle, beloved husband of Norma Lillian Astle (nee Webb), of Calgary, AB, passed away Monday, December 23, 2024, at the age of 95 years.
He was born on January 16, 1929, in Lethbridge, AB, to George Astle and Faith Astle (nee Davies) of Coutts, AB. He was raised in Southern Alberta on a dairy farm, and, after a brief stint as a teacher, went on to obtain his Chartered Accountant designation. He had a long and successful career in the oil industry in Calgary, mostly with Dome Petroleum.
Henry, affectionately known as “Papa,” was a dedicated father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He especially cherished spending quality time with his grandkids—often babysitting them for weeks or joining them on vacations.
Winters in Hawaii, summers in Canmore, traveling the world, tent-trailer camping with the family, and hiking in the mountains with their family dog, Sam, were where he loved to spend his free time. He also enjoyed large family gatherings, especially at Christmases which included his niece Judy’s family. He will be greatly missed this Christmas but leaves so many great memories.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Norma Astle (nee Webb), his children, Thomas (Martha-Lynn) and Jane (Brendan); his grandchildren, Blair (Alexandra), Mitchell, Michael and Danielle; his great-grandchildren, Henri and Hayden; as well as numerous family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Faith; and his son-in-law Ron.
